With the growing use of Ayurvedic skincare products, industrial leaders are claiming the benefits of Ayurvedic herbs like "Gotu Kola & quot (Centella Asiatica) and growing their businesses throughout the country. It's not about marketing the Ayurvedic skin care products; it's about mentioning their actual benefits that have helped many people to cure their skin ailments and make it beautiful and healthy.

The first step in the Ayurvedic skincare process is to know your skin type. There are three types of Ayurvedic psycho-physiological principles called Doshas: namely: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. They control all the activities of the mind and body. They are also responsible for determining the physical characteristics, emotional and mental tendencies of every human being. Talking about their components, Vata consists of air and space, Pitta is composed of water and fire, and Kapha is mostly earth and water. These have been mentioned here because a persons skin type in terms of Ayurveda can be Vata, Pitta or Kapha or even a combination of any two of these Doshas.

Three Doshas

These Doshas are essential to understand because the Ayurvedic treatment depends on how a persons skin is. Also, depending upon the skin type, the proceeding treatment and products are given. If a person's skin is Vata, it is generally dry and thus, quickly gets dehydrated. So, for Vata, the Ayurvedic skincare product sused are essential oils or herbs in combination, that can nurture and rehydrate the skin. If this is not done, the skin will be receptive to premature ageing and wrinkles. Since Pitta is mostly fire, the skin type is prone to have more breakouts and is highly photosensitive. This skin type even has a less tolerance level for hot food. Thus, the skin requires proper cooling and nourishment. The Ayurvedic skincare products used should be resistant to the rays of the Sun. Moreover, in the eating habits, hot, spicy and oily food should be avoided.

As Kapha Dosha is primarily water and earth, it is thick, greasy and more tolerant to the Sun. Due to its thickness and oiliness, the skin is more vulnerable to assimilate ama (toxins) beneath the skin surface. Therefore, people having Kapha skin need both external and internal detoxification. Scrubbing the skin with bentonite clay helps in external cleansing of the skin.
